ABOUT ELLIS ROWAN:
Marian Ellis Rowan (1848–1922), known as Ellis Rowan, was a celebrated self-taught Australian botanical and natural history artist, author and intrepid explorer. Starting in Victoria, she transformed flower painting into a powerful blend of scientific illustration and artistic expression. Over a career spanning nearly five decades, she created thousands of richly detailed watercolours of plants, birds and insects from Australia and around the world. Celebrated in her lifetime with multiple exhibition awards and being widely collected, she also published acclaimed illustrated books and redefined the role of women in science and art at a time when both were largely male domains.
It is a privilege for Moe Moe Design to work with the museum and the Trevor Kennedy Foundation to bring this exceptional range to the public.
